Why begin in 7th or 8th grade?

  • Girls in a single-gender school can focus on academics at a crucial time in their development.
  • All teachers at NDA teach in their subject area only, making them specialists in that area. Our faculty is highly educated: 63% have advanced degrees; 7% have doctorates
  • NDA seventh and eighth grade students can take high school level courses if they are ready for them.
  • Of the girls who begin at NDA in 7th or 8th grade, 95% take honors courses in high school.
  • Students receive more attention due to our small class size: just 15 students in core subjects.
  • The level of academic achievement a student attains by eighth grade has a large impact on her college and career readiness – more than anything that happens academically in high school.*
  • In 2016, both the valedictorian and salutatorian started at NDA prior to high school.
  • Girls learn early to be leaders by being given more opportunities to lead and be mentored by their older Eagle sisters!
