NDA Seniors Honored for Academic Excellence -Top 2% of Northwest Ohio Students Recognized

Seniors Rida Naqvi, Katherine Bauer, and Gina Case were all honored at the annual BP-Husky Refinery Academic Excellence Dinner.  The students from 30 Toledo-area schools honored at the banquet were all in the top two percent of their graduating class, including the valedictorians and salutatorians of those schools. Gina Case and Rida Naqvi earned the top grades in Notre Dame Academy’s Class of 2017.

Gina is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate. She completed a CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service) Project to put what she learned into action as a requirement of the diploma. She worked with fellow awardee and classmate, Miss Katherine Bauer, on the CAS Project where they created and implemented a campaign to raise awareness of International Month of the Girl. Gina is also known for her roles in musical productions in the Toledo area. This fall, she starred in NDA’s production of Cinderella and had a major role in St. John Jesuit’s production of the Addams Family. Outside of NDA, she works with Laurel’s Princess Parties. She was also a NDA Diplomat, homeroom representative for several years, and in the Astronomy Club. She is considering either University of Miami or the University of Michigan with a major in Mathematics.

Katherine is also International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate. She is involved PCT Service, French and Current Events Club and serves as a Diplomat. She is a competitive pianist playing since she was in kindergarten. Katherine is also an accomplished dancer for The Toledo Ballet dancing with them since she was four.  She has been accepted into the Honors Program of Engineering at the Ohio State University and will begin in the fall.

Rida is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate and completed a CAS Project that was inspired the NDA’s year-long study theme of Mental Health, Mercy, and Healing.  She put together a Mental Health Symposium for NDA students, faculty, and staff and recruited classmates to be the speakers.  Rida tutored at NDA all four years of high school. She was vice-president of The Lifesavers club, a member of Our Loyal Daughters and Arab clubs and a member of the SEAL Team. She was a member NDA’s Astronomy Club. She is a youth leader at Ahlul Bayt mosque and enjoys babysitting. She will be majoring in biology at the University of Toledo with the intention of going to medical school.
