HOW THE GOVERNMENT HELPS

Though the U.S. government could provide more programs, it is important to focus on the ones that are available to those who are apart of low income families. Hopefully, the information provided and the links are helpful to all those in need of a helping hand from Uncle Sam.

WIC:
Women, Infants, and Children, better known as WIC, provides Federal grants to States for vital foods, health care referrals, and education on nutrition for low income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding women and their children up to age five.

LIHEAP:
LIHEAP is the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which works to help low income families pay for their home energy needs. They hand out billions of dollars in grants each year, and are available in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, five territories, and around 140 Tribes and Tribal organizations.

SNAP:
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known for Food Stamps, helps to provide over 35 million people each month with an adequate food supply. Each recipient of Food Stamps receives something like a credit card and can be used at most grocery stores.

Welfare Welfare supplies aid to those with low incomes and provide those with basic health care, food stamps, child care assistance, unemployment, cash aid, housing assistance, and potential more depending on the situation.
