-"Its mission is to address the root causes of poverty in America through promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and through transformative education."

Overview
-The CCHD believes that through the empowerment and participation for the poor they can learn to make changes for themselves. They want those who are living below the poverty line to be able to participate in making decisions that will affect their lives, which will ultimately help them to overcome poverty itself.

-Throughout its 36 years, CCHD has given out over 7,800 grants to self-help projects for poor people.

-It is supported completely by private donations, mainly from Catholic parishioners.
