What's Happening Around the Area?

Toledoans USA

The Toledoans United for Social Action organization (TUSA) helps to organize the local Toledo Community by working for social and economic justice. This organization’s goal is to build about a stronger community by finding solutions to the local issues and concerns while at the same time holding those officials accountable who have the power to put into action the appropriate solutions. In 2004, TUSA successfully cleaned up more than 70 houses and conducted 35 arrests and search warrants to try and break the drug and prostitution cycle of our area. TUSA has also fought for bills, agreements, and stricter code enforcements to help alleviate some of our other local problems in areas such as employment, housing, education and safety. The TUSA organization consists of 21 active church/spiritual congregations of the local area in addition to 8 elected officers including a Chair, Vice-Chair, a Corresponding Secretary, a Recording Secretary, a Treasurer as well as three At-Large officers. These members put on National Workshops as well as Local Training sessions for any additional groups, individuals, or even youth who are interested in fighting for justice in their local community.

The Padua Center of Toledo

The Padua Center addresses the issues of a need for a change in our community and what people are willing to do to help our community achieve that needed change. The groups work to discuss and make a plan of attack on several issues that are faced in our community. This organization hopes to empower not only adults to make a difference, but children as well. The center has worked to help young children/adults not only through tutoring, but through summer camps, life skills workshops, a program called Emerging Young Ladies, environmental education, and even gardening projects. All of these different projects have helped to benefit and educate members of our community to get involved to help our community and those who are less fortunate members of our community.
