Reflections
CCHD (Catholic Campaign for Human Development) is a domestic anti-poverty, social justice program. It was established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops with a certain goal in mind. This goal was and still is to eradicate poverty in local communities by empowering individuals who experience poverty on a daily basis to help themselves. CCHD continues to work to eradicate poverty but also to educate those that do not necessarily experience it. This organization also encourages those that don't experience poverty to help those that do by volunteering, empowering, and reflecting. With every person's help, CCHD will be successful in achieving their goal.
Furthermore, CCHD strives to uphold the teachings of Catholic social justice when helping with the poor. Among these beliefs is the dignity of the human person. This teaching promotes that all life is sacred and every Catholic has the duty to uphold this principle no matter what stage or state in life a person is currently in. Every other social teaching stems from this central theme including the rights of workers, solidarity, care for God's creation and our rights and responsibilities as Catholics. Because we are called to respect the dignity of human life, all of the other social teachings fall into place.
