We have three Athletes of the Week. First up is varsity track and field athlete and sophomore Emily Vining. At the Dayton Roosevelt track meet, Emily Vining ran the 2000-meter steeplechase. In the winning the event by a wide margin, Emily set a new NDA school record. According to Head Varsity Track & Field Coach Ray Strassner: “Emily is willing to run in whatever events the team needs her. Whether it be a race from the 400m to the 1600m, the relays, or the 300 hurdles. She is an extremely hard worker and a very coachable athlete.”
Next up is track and field athlete and junior Iris Rodriguez. In her first year in the pole vault, Iris successfully cleared the height of 8 feet and gave the team some valuable points at the Dayton meet. This is a huge accomplishment for an athlete new to the sport of pole vaulting. According to Head Varsity Track & Field Coach Ray Strassner: “Iris is very coachable, and strives to succeed. We love having her as a member of our track & field team.”
Next up is Novice rower and freshman Valeria Ponce. Valeria rows in the Novice 8 and 4 boats and she leads by example by staying focused and working hard during practice. According to Rowing Coach Emily Mills: “”Valeria has a good, positive attitude and makes an effort to push herself to be better every practice.”
Congratulations to Emily Vining, Iris Rodriguez, and Valeria Ponce, this week’s Athletes of the Week!
